At FMO, we’re working towards a world in which, by 2050, more than 9 billion people live well and within planetary boundaries. Progress towards the SDGs, however, is lacking worldwide, and inequality is on the rise while the climate crisis rages on. This requires an ambitious impact agenda—in line with our updated 2030 Strategy: Pioneer - Develop - Scale.
To do so, we’re pushing the boundaries on fields such as market creation and innovation, Reduced Inequalities, Climate Action and ESG management, and on mobilization—all while dealing with increasingly stringent regulatory requirements.
That’s why we want to improve our ESG impact management significantly. Not only will it immensely benefit local communities where it’s most needed, it will enhance our transparency and disclosure practices. To achieve this, we’re looking for new colleagues to strengthen our ESG team.
ESG+ TEAM
FMO’s ESG+ department seeks to deliver impact on the SDGs by being a driving force behind scalable private sector interventions to deliver decent jobs, reduce inequalities between and within countries and transition to a +1.5-degree world. The department delivers effective impact management across the impact, (ESG) risk, and return spectrum, based on harmonized impact concepts and metrics. To further support our long-term growth ambitions and reflecting the strategic importance of environmental and social sustainability, FMO’s ESG+ department has a dedicated Agribusiness, Food & Water Environmental and Social Team. The department seeks to create demonstrable and sought-after impact for FMO’s clients beyond the financing FMO provides—to truly make a difference.

DAVID GRISO MONTANES
The interaction of economic activity with the environment and with society is an area that interests me deeply, especially in the agriculture and forestry sectors. As Senior Environmental & Social officer at FMO, I believe we need to work closely with our clients, get to know their story, the context where they operate, so we are able to put ourselves in their shoes, rather than rigidly imposing ‘our best solution’.

I have been working for FMO’s ESG+ Department for ten years now and still find my job to be as exciting as I did on my first day. Why? Two of my main values are problem solving and fairness. Being part of the ESG+ Department allows me to work with these values every day and in completely different ways. It is great fun and often does not feel like work.
