Kwanza Infrastructure Group
Kwanza Infrastructure is currently developing the 152 km 132kV Bulambuli – Moroto Transmission Project in Uganda, an independent power transmission project (IPT) that aims to contribute to a 61% increase in the generation of clean power and achieve a 98% improvement in supply quality and security.

What made you decide to start this project?
Over the last decade, Uganda attracted significant investment into the generation segment, although transmission capacity lagged. In 2018, we began fostering collaborations and advocating for a friendly regulatory framework for the IPT business model. Beyond our project goals, IPT helps reduce overall energy sector costs by providing access to affordable generation and supporting renewable integration into the system.
Where do you see yourself and your project in three years?
As first-time developers, we've been diligently building a track record in developing impactful infrastructure projects, spanning generation, distribution and transmission since our inception in 2016. Our immediate goal is to see this project through, expecting commissioning and operational phases within the next three years. The project's success is crucial, with the potential to expedite the construction and commissioning our run-of-river hydropower projects, which reliant on a reliable evacuation solution. Our ambitions reach beyond Uganda; we aim to expand into Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Cameroon within this timeframe.
If you could step into someone else’s shoes for a day, who would it be, and what experiences or insights do you hope to gain during that time?
Personally, I'd like to step into the shoes of a key funder for electricity infrastructure projects in sub-Saharan Africa, specifically as a lender. This stems from the desire to gain a deeper understanding of fundraising and funding considerations for locally developed power infrastructure projects in this region.
